Hardware
Previous knowledge
My previous knowledge of computer harware was good. I understood what all of the components were but not neccesarily what they did.
Areas of strength
- The location and how to remove and reassemble each component.
- I have a good knowledge of how hard drives and optical drives work.
Areas of weakness
- I did not know what RAM did.
- I did not understand what the CPU did.
Current Knowledge
The course refreshed my knowledge of computer hardware.
During the course I found out how the hardware components relate to each other and the specific function of each component.
I feel confident about my knowledge and my ability to teach this subject.
Strategies For teaching
Clear explinations of the terminology used in computer hardware.
Demonstration of how to open the computer up
Safety instructions (Computer cases can be very sharp on the inside)
Practical 'can you find' session where the learners get to take apart computers in small groups.
Learner led discussion about which bit does what.
Learners use the internet to find more information.
Set challenges (who can find the fastest CPU, Biggest hard drive etc.....)
